Cleveland, Ohio has extreme cold climate and encounters thunderstorms with heavy snowfalls as high as 30.4 inches in March, 2008.

The residents can prepare themselves for a thunderstorm by cutting down unsafe trees. People should avoid using corded phones, electric equipments and plumbing for hand wash, shower, etc and stay indoors and away from concrete walls.

Remnants of the third largest Hurricane Ike created a damage of 300 million, claimed two deaths and caused several injuries in Ohio. The Red Cross, FEMA and the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps Members were among the organizations that helped people overcome the aftermath of the Ike Hurricane. The thunderstorm of Dallas, Texas in 1995 was considered the biggest during those times. It created loss of 1.5 billion. Cleveland is prone to thunderstorms of similar kind. Both Dallas and Cleveland have humid climate. Though the severity of winter is less in Dallas when compared to Cleveland, the possible occurrence of thunderstorms is not mitigated.

New Orleans features a humid sub tropical climate with mild winters unlike in Cleveland. Snow fall is rare. Hurricanes are prominent in New Orleans whereas Cleveland is prone to heavy snowfalls and thunderstorms.

Cleveland is equipped with evacuation plans that vacate a majority of the town. It has also adopted the Homeland Security Advisory System for different kinds of disasters. Cleveland is smaller in size and hence rescue is easier.
